The purpose of this study was to analyze the impact of parity on birth experience and to determine the various factors which were closely related to the childbirth pain.
The correlation and relative contribution of parity to 11 item and 10 psychological and back ground variables to 3 childbirth outcome measures were investigated.
Variables included parity, labor length, age, education, pregnancy complication, childbirth attitude, knowledge of pregnancy, anxiety, pain self-report, want husband, behavior at labor, first menstrual pain, show pain.
Among 134 women, we found that the effect of parity on obstetrical measures of the ease of labor and delivery was very significant. Although the multiparas had obstetrically easier labors, there was no significant parity difference in the subjective experience.
The most important factors contributing to childbirth outcome were : gravida, age, pregnancy complication, show pain.
Gravida did not contribute to the variance of behavior at labor, self-report of pain. None of the variables influenced self-report of pain.
